Meet Sarah👋

This week we are chatting to Sarah, a local Tunbridge Wells mum who shares her favourite places around town and the little things that help make mum life easier.

Introduce yourself

Hi, I'm Sarah, owner of Royal Wells Bakery, and mum to two lovely girls, aged 8 and 10. I have a home bakery, and you may have seen me selling my bakes at the Pantiles Market or at Tonbridge Castle Artisan Market. I also have an Etsy shop where I send brownies, cookies and florentines anywhere in the country - they're great gifts when you don't know what to buy someone! I've lived in Tunbridge Wells since I was 5 and my parents moved down from London, so it's safe to say that I know it inside out!

Favourite local business and why?

I've got to say my friends at Mexcellent on Camden Road. Such delicious food, great vibes, friendly service and good value for money. I'm so pleased to see another independent thriving in Tunbridge Wells.

Favourite hidden gem in Tunbridge Wells

This one is just outside TW, in Hartfield, but we love visiting Pooh Corner tea room, combined with an Ashdown Forest walk. The food is delicious and they have a cute, Winnie the Pooh themed shop and museum. My kids have outgrown the Pooh theme slightly, but we all still love the cafe!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Listening to Bruce Springsteen on a nearly daily basis, watching trashy TV such as MAFS and of course, eating cake!

Best mum hack

If in doubt, get outside. Sometimes that feels like a big task in itself, but you'll never regret getting the kids outside to run off some steam and for a change of scene. Even though mine are a little bit older now, they're never as happy as when they're at the beach or running round a big open space. Also, doing something for yourself each day, even if it's something really small. As a mum, you do so much caring for other people, but you also need to look after yourself. For me, it's either a workout or a cup of tea in peace!
