A lovely local mum bringing traditional craft back to life, Ruth Gray creates beautifully handwoven willow baskets and pieces inspired by nature, alongside running relaxed, beginner-friendly workshops in and around Tunbridge Wells.

Tell us about your journey from the business idea to launching the business. 

I have been working with willow for several years now, but I originally trained as a teacher, so running workshops was a natural progression.

What's been your biggest achievement since starting your business? My biggest achievement is the feedback I get from participants. When workshop participants leave with a smile on their faces and a successful project in their hands, I get such a buzz!

What inspired you to start the business? I love weaving with willow and wanted to turn it from an enthusiastic hobby into something I do most days of the week.

What does the future look like? I am always adding new workshops to my programme; my 2026 workshops will be available to book from late January. I have a few exciting offers up my sleeve.

What message would you like to send to our community of small business owners? I love the Mark Twain quote, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
