Kostina Art Studio

This week on Small Business Saturday, we are shining a spotlight on Kostina Art Studio - a welcoming creative space on the High Street, bringing people together through colour, texture and creativity. A space to slow down, switch off and get creative, whatever your experince or skill level is.
Tell us about your journey from the business idea to launching the business.
I come from a fashion and textile background and have always been obsessed with colour and texture. I never really saw myself teaching, as I used to be quite shy. But once I started sharing what I love, it felt natural. It began with just a few small sessions a year and slowly grew into having my own studio, where people can come and create, whatever their experience.
What's been your biggest achievement since starting your business?
Seeing people arrive a bit tense and leave feeling lighter. I never get tired of that. Some come back again and again, bring friends or celebrate birthdays here. Knowing the studio has become a place where people can switch off and enjoy themselves means a lot to me. And personally, it's helped me build confidence I didn't have before.
What inspired you to start the business?
Honestly, burnout. I realised how little space we have as adults to just create without pressure. No goals, no need to be good at something. I needed that myself at the time, and I still do. I wanted to create somewhere people could relax, make a mess, try something new and just enjoy the process.
What does the future look like?
I've been bringing more textile workshops into the studio lately, which is nice because it takes me back to my fashion and textile roots. I've also added some new festive workshops for Christmas, so there's quite a bit happening! I love trying out new ideas and seeing what people enjoy.
What message would you like to send to our community of small business owners?
I think the most important thing is to do something that genuinely inspires you. People can feel that energy, and they can also tell when it's missing. If you're not excited about what you do, it's hard for others to be. But when it's something you really care about, people naturally connect with it.
